REAL LOSE THE DERBY
Real Madrid recently lost in the derby against Atletico Madrid for the first time in 23 matches after suffering a 1-0 defeat at the Santiago Bernebeu. Inform striker Diego Costa scored the only goal of the match, as the pressure on Carlo Ancelotti increased.
This defeat means that Madrid have fallen an incredible 5 points – even at this early stage of the season – behind Barcelona. As result of this victory, archrivals Atletico Madrid have now begun the season with seven consecutive victories. After this defeat, manager Ancelotti has come in for a lot of criticism, but star striker Cristiano Ronaldo chose to blame the players.
He has said that Ancelotti did everything he could to win the match, but ultimately the players did not deliver on the pitch. Ronaldo did recently signed a new five-year contract with Real Madrid, which made him the best paid player in the world due to a reported earnings of around £ 300,000 per week after tax.
The match also saw the introduction of Gareth Bale, who is the world’s most expensive player, at half-time, but he failed to make a significant impact. You can still put money on Bale finishing as the Player of the Season however.
Bale has been struggling with injuries since making the £ 86 million move to Madrid. The club also dropped points against Villarreal earlier in the season after a 2-2 draw.
“The manager has nothing to do with it. He is doing a great job. The fault is on the players, we are the ones that have to improve. I am happy with Ancelotti; he is one of the best coaches I have ever had. We have to keep our heads up because the league is complicated. The good thing is that this loss has come early. I have a lot of hope for winning something important this year. I played poorly and so did my team-mate,” said Ronaldo.
