Arsenal consider Sami Khedira swoop
Arsenal is considering making a transfer swoop for Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira.
The Gunners are targeting the German international midfielder to bolster their central midfield options after Mikel Arteta failed to convince the club about his long term form with some inconsistent performances last season.
Chelsea is also reportedly in the running for the signature of the German midfield general with Jose Mourinho looking at the player for as an ideal replacement for the departing Frank Lampard. Mourinho is a huge fan of the Algerian born German international and wanted to sign him for Chelsea last season when he returned to the club from Real Madrid.
The likes of Fiorentina are also interested in the services of the 27 year old, who spent the majority of last season on the treatment table after suffering a horrific injury. Real Madrid has been linked with several midfield signings including Marco Veratti from Paris Saint Germain, Ramires from Chelsea and Paul Pogba from Juventus and that leaves the future of Sami Khedira in serious doubt.
And this could open the door for a move to Arsenal and with several German internationals already in the side, Arsene Wenger could hope for a transfer coup just like he managed with Mesut Ozil last summer.
Khedira is currently in Brazil with the German squad for the World Cup and any move for the player would have to wait till the end of the showpiece event.
The FA Cup holders have long been criticized for not signing a seasoned defensive midfielder of world class caliber and it now seems that Arsene Wenger is ready to make amends and offer Real Madrid £ 16 million plus add-ons for Sami Khedira.
Khedira joined Real from VfB Stuttgart after impressing for the German side in the World Cup in 2010.
