Sami Khedira unclear situation at Real Madrid
Sami Khedira’s situation at Real Madrid continues to remain unclear as the defender continues to prolong the contract talks. He is now free to talk with clubs from abroad, but he has confirmed that he is happy to stay at the Spanish outfit.
An injury to Luka Modric has kept the Croatian midfielder out of action for the last months. Khedira has been able to get regular first-team action due to this. The 27-year-old is yet to start a Champions League or la Liga match. He has played in less than 100 minutes of action this campaign.
Despite this, the German international continues to be subjected to transfer speculation due to the quality that he provides to a team when fit. Premier League clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea have been linked with him for long periods of time.
Even with the player’s own admission that he would like to stay at Madrid, it remains highly uncertain that he would sign a new contract. Even with the injuries to Madrid, the fact that he has not been getting much game time tells a lot about the current situation. Khedira will face an even bigger struggle to get into the first-team if Modric returns in time.
“If we can reach a solution, I’ll be very happy.I’m confident that soon I will get more of a chance to play. There are other players in my position but that competition is healthy,” saidKhedira. Arsenal have also been heavily linked with the player, but Arsene Wenger has not been open about the interest so far. It is expected that a situation may be reached by the end of January whereby Khedira ends up leaving Madrid for a small figure or decides to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu.AsierIllarramendi and Isco also provide competition for the German.
